Legal & Press

Licence terms, privacy policy, branding guidelines, and press resources for GS_Play.

The legal basics for using GS_Play — what you’re allowed to do with the framework, and what data the framework and this site touch — plus the branding rules and press material for writing about it.

Licence terms

Licence terms are split by tier. Read the set that matches the version of GS_Play you hold.

  • Free — the Licence Notice and EULA governing the free tier.
  • Premium — a separate Licence Notice and EULA for the premium tier. Not yet published; they will appear here alongside the free terms rather than replacing them.
  • Privacy — What GS_Play collects (nothing) and what this documentation site records.

Press

  • Branding Guidelines — How to use the GS_Play name, logo, and colours.
  • Press — Fact sheet, boilerplate, and what you may publish about GS_Play.
  • O3DE’s own licence — GS_Play is a third-party gem suite for O3DE; the engine itself is Apache 2.0 and governed separately.
  • O3DE branding guidelines — the engine’s own trademark and logo rules, which apply to your use of the O3DE name and marks.
  • Support — for licensing questions, bundling requests, media inquiries, or data concerns.

1 - Free Licence

The licence terms that govern the free tier of GS_Play.

The terms that govern the free tier of GS_Play — the gems, source, and documentation available at no charge.

1.1 - Free Licence Notice

The GS_Play free-tier Licence Notice - a plain-language summary of your licence.

Scope

This notice covers the free tier of GS_Play only. The premium tier is governed by its own separate Licence Notice and EULA, published under Legal & Press when available.

What this page will cover

When published, the Licence Notice will be a plain-language summary of the free-tier End User Licence Agreement — what you may do with the GS_Play gems and their source, what you may do with the games and projects you build using them, and the restrictions that apply. It will be a summary only. Where the summary and the EULA differ, the EULA controls.

What is not in question

Two points hold regardless of the final terms, and are worth stating now:

  • Your projects are yours. Genome Studios does not acquire ownership of your games, assets, code, builds, or configurations merely because you built them with GS_Play.
  • O3DE is governed separately. GS_Play is a third-party gem suite for the Open 3D Engine. The engine is licensed under Apache 2.0 by the Open 3D Foundation, and nothing in the GS_Play licence changes or restricts your rights to it. See o3de.org/license.

1.2 - Free End User Licence Agreement

The GS_Play free-tier End User Licence Agreement from Genome Studios Inc.

Scope

This agreement covers the free tier of GS_Play only. The premium tier will be governed by its own separate End User Licence Agreement, published under Legal & Press when available.

The parties

GS_Play is developed and licensed by Genome Studios Inc., a corporation incorporated under the laws of Alberta, Canada.

GS_Play is a suite of proprietary gems for the Open 3D Engine (O3DE). It is an independent third-party product. It is not an official O3DE product and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by the Open 3D Foundation, the Linux Foundation, or the O3DE project.

2 - Privacy

What GS_Play collects (nothing) and what this documentation site records.

Short version: the GS_Play gems have no telemetry and no analytics. They don’t collect, transmit, sell, or monetize anything about you, your machine, or your projects. This documentation website does keep basic, anonymous traffic statistics — self-hosted, cookieless, and detailed below.

The framework

GS_Play is a set of C++ gems that compile into your O3DE project. They run inside your editor and your game.

What the gems do not collect

  • Your name, email, IP address, or machine identifiers
  • Which projects you have, what they contain, or where they live
  • Which gems you enable, what you build, or how you configure it
  • Any content from your source, assets, prefabs, or project.json

There is no telemetry system, no usage analytics, no licence phone-home, and no crash-reporting service built into the gems. They make no network connections of their own.

Anything your shipped game transmits is code you wrote or a third-party service you integrated. GS_Play adds nothing to that surface.

Local data

Gems that persist state — save games, options, input profiles — write to the standard O3DE user paths on your own machine. That data stays on your device, and it belongs to you. GS_Play never uploads it.

This documentation site

gsplay.genomestudios.ca is a static Hugo site. It has no accounts, no logins, and no user profiles.

ConnectionPurposeWhat it sees
Umami analytics — metrics.genomestudios.caAnonymous page-view counts, so we know which docs pages are actually usedPage URL, referrer, screen size, country, browser. Self-hosted on Genome Studios infrastructure — no third-party ad network is involved
jQuery and Lunr — public CDNsSite scripting and the offline search indexYour IP address, as an unavoidable part of serving a file over HTTP
Contact form — FormspreeDelivers the message you choose to send usOnly what you type into the form, plus your email address so we can reply
Embedded video, Discord, and social linksCommunity and tutorial linksNothing until you click or play — these are ordinary links and standard embeds, governed by those services’ own policies

Umami is cookieless. It sets no cookies, does not fingerprint, does not track you across sites, and stores no personal data. We use it to count page views, not to identify readers. Nothing collected is sold, shared, or used for advertising.

The contact form is the one place you deliberately hand us personal information. We use what you send to answer you, and for nothing else.

Your rights

The gems collect nothing, so there’s nothing for us to delete, export, or correct on your behalf. For anything you sent through the contact form, ask and we’ll delete it.

If you believe a bug caused GS_Play to transmit something it shouldn’t, contact us — we’ll treat it as a defect and fix it.

Changes to this policy

Material changes will be noted in the Changelog.

3 - Branding Guidelines

How to use the GS_Play name, logo, and colours when you write about or reference GS_Play.

The short version

If you are reviewing, teaching, reporting on, or streaming GS_Play, you already have permission — go ahead. You do not need our approval, and you may monetize it. The rules below matter when you deliberately use our logo or wordmark in your own promotional material.

Using the GS_Play name

  • “GS_Play” is written with a capital G, capital S, an underscore, and a capital P. Not “GSPlay”, not “GS Play”, not “gs_play”, not “GS_PLAY”.
  • Refer to the product as GS_Play or the GS_Play framework. Its descriptive name is the O3DE Gameplay Framework.
  • Individual gems keep their own casingGS_Core, GS_Unit, GS_PhantomCam, GS_Cinematics, and so on. Underscore, no space, internal capitals as documented.
  • Do not use GS_Play, or anything confusingly similar, as the name of your own product, service, gem, or company.
  • Do not incorporate GS_Play into your own logo, wordmark, domain name, or social handle in a way that suggests it is ours or that we back it.

Accurate, factual references are always fine — “built with GS_Play”, “GS_Play tutorial”, “a review of GS_Play”. Saying your game uses GS_Play is a statement of fact and needs nothing from us.

Approved logo forms

The GS_Play brand is supplied as a logo-and-wordmark lockup in four colourways. Use the one that suits your background:

ColourwayUse it on
Navy on transparentLight backgrounds — the default for print and light-mode layouts
White on transparentDark backgrounds — the default for dark-mode layouts and video
Black on transparentSingle-colour print, and anywhere navy would not reproduce
Gold on transparentAccent use on deep navy or black, where the mark is decorative rather than identifying

Use the supplied artwork as-is. Do not rebuild, retrace, approximate, or set the wordmark yourself in a substitute typeface.

What you may not do with brand assets

GS_Play brand assets may not be:

  • modified, distorted, stretched, rotated, or otherwise altered;
  • recoloured beyond the four supplied colourways, including tinting, gradients, or duotone treatments;
  • animated, or given effects such as shadows, glows, or bevels;
  • combined or locked up with another logo to form a new mark;
  • used as the primary source identifier for your own product, service, or gem, without our written approval.

You also may not remove or obscure copyright, trademark, or attribution notices, and you may not state or imply that Genome Studios sponsors, endorses, certifies, or is affiliated with you or your work unless we’ve agreed to it in writing.

Colour palette

These are the colours GS_Play uses today. Match these values when you need GS_Play’s colours in a layout.

ColourHexRole
Navy#184172Primary — buttons, links, headings
Sky#5097CCSecondary accent
Gold#F4D13DHighlight accent
Navy dark#051323Dark base surface
Navy darkest#030A12Deepest surface
Cream#F7F5EBLight base surface

The palette is for surrounding layout, not for restyling the mark. Use one of the four supplied logo colourways rather than recolouring the artwork into a palette value yourself.

Screenshots, video, and streams

You may capture, publish, and monetize screenshots and recordings of GS_Play — the O3DE Editor with GS_Play tools open, the gem components in the inspector, the Dialogue Editor and graph tools, and games running on the framework. No approval needed, and no special treatment required.

Two asks, both practical rather than legal: show a current version where you can, and if you’re demonstrating something that has since changed, say which version you captured. The current framework version is 0.6.0.

GS_Play and O3DE are different things

GS_Play is an independent, third-party gem suite for O3DE. It is not an official O3DE product, and it is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by the Open 3D Foundation, the Linux Foundation, or the O3DE project. Please don’t describe it as official, bundled, or endorsed.

Open 3D Engine, O3DE, and related names and logos are trademarks of their respective owners, and nothing here grants any right to use them. If you need to use the O3DE name or marks alongside ours, follow the O3DE branding guidelines.

Requesting assets or approval

For the asset pack, a co-branding or partnership arrangement, or written approval for a use the rules above don’t cover — get in touch.

4 - Press

Fact sheet, boilerplate, and what you may publish about GS_Play.

Writing about GS_Play, recording a tutorial, or putting together a review? Everything you need is on this page. You do not need our permission, and you do not need to check in with us first.

In one line

GS_Play is a modular gameplay framework for the Open 3D Engine — cameras, cinematics, dialogue, UI, audio, character control, and more, each a self-contained gem you enable only if you need it.

Boilerplate

Quotable, and safe to reproduce verbatim:

GS_Play is a modular gameplay framework for the Open 3D Engine (O3DE), built as a suite of independently enableable gems covering cameras, cinematics, dialogue, UI, audio, character control, world interaction, and RPG systems. It is developed by Genome Studios Inc., a corporation incorporated in Alberta, Canada. GS_Play is not an official O3DE product and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by the Open 3D Foundation, the Linux Foundation, or the O3DE project.

What you may publish

You may create, publish, distribute, and monetize media that truthfully depicts, demonstrates, reviews, teaches, or comments on GS_Play — screenshots, editor recordings, tutorials, reviews, livestreams, articles, and presentations. Games you build with GS_Play are yours to show and sell without restriction from us.

No advance approval is required for reviews, criticism, tutorials, journalism, educational material, streams, or screenshots. That includes unfavourable coverage.

The one place to check the rules is deliberate use of our logo or wordmark in your own promotional material — see the Branding Guidelines. Using the name GS_Play in prose, or showing the software as it looks, needs nothing from us beyond writing GS_Play correctly.

Assets

A downloadable press kit — logos, editor screenshots, and key art — is being assembled and will be published here.

In the meantime: the Features pages carry current product screenshots you’re welcome to use, and you can request specific assets. Tell us what you’re working on and what resolution you need.

Please don’t

  • Describe GS_Play as an official O3DE product, or as bundled with, endorsed by, or affiliated with the Open 3D Foundation, the Linux Foundation, or the O3DE project.
  • State pricing, tiers, or availability dates we haven’t published.
  • Redistribute the GS_Play gems yourself. Link to gsplay.genomestudios.ca instead.
  • Present a modified build, or screenshots of one, as GS_Play.
